I am one of those rare women who was full of anticipation at the thought of turning 40; convinced that it would be an exciting year packed with opportunities. I didn’t have to wait the requisite “100 days” for in June, less than a month later, Mirella contacted me full of enthusiasm for bringing EuropeanPWN to Germany. Mirella and I had met by chance the previous year at the WIN conference in Rome. Who could have imagined or dreamed that EuropeanPWN-Frankfurt would be the result of two paths crossing amidst a group of 700.
And so it was that, last week, we launched the Frankfurt chapter of the EuropeanPWN with Dr. Gertrude Tumpel-Gugerell, Executive Board Member at the European Central Bank, as our guest speaker. Much like childbirth, I imagine, the challenges and anguish leading up to the event are quickly forgotten and replaced with feelings of fulfilment and exhilaration. The evening was filled with excitement, energy and the buzz of anticipation.
The call for organizational support was met with an overwhelming enthusiasm and I have the great pleasure of and am looking forward to our moving the chapter ahead as a team.
The keynote speech entitled Opportunities and Challenges for Professional Women reflects the wonderful opportunity that has presented itself in setting up and growing the Frankfurt chapter and of course contributing to the continued success of the network. Whatever challenges we encounter, I am convinced that they will offer great possibilities for personal growth and development. My current mantra "When sleeping women wake, mountains will move" certainly invokes my own call to leadership and the desire to inspire other women to do the same.
Once again, I wish to extend my thanks on behalf of EuropeanPWN both to Dr. Tumpel-Gugerell for her time and to the European Central Bank for hosting the event.
I look forward to having both Sjannie Hulsman (Düsseldorf) and Isabelle Jammot (Berlin) on board shortly, when their respective cities are launched in April.
