Most studies on professional career progress insist on the importance of mentors. One of EuropeanPWN’s key missions is to encourage mentoring among members, and to encourage members to seek out senior mentors both within and outside their companies.
In this section, you can learn more about mentoring and discover initiatives both within EuropeanPWN and in the business world at large. We have also included a section on coaching, something quite different but which is often confused with mentoring.
And remember, when you ask someone to mentor you, thing also about who you might mentor yourself. And a mentor isn’t always someone older than you are, as reverse mentoring best practice shows!
EuropeanPWN published its 7th book in March 2007:

presents some of the most innovative and successful mentoring programmes currently in deployment in Europe. These programmes, which involve men and women in Amsterdam, Geneva, London, Madrid, Nice and Paris, were designed to foster the professional progress of women. Their founders experimented with every possible mentoring method available and created their own unique approaches. Here they share their first-hand experience, providing valuable insights, lessons learned and practical guidelines. Women@Work No. 7 aims to inspire mentees and mentors, as well as co-ordinators of mentoring programmes and managers of corporate talent, to take advantage of the powerful tool of mentoring and make it their own.
*Mentoring gives a precious boost to a woman’s career. Mentoring programmes fill a gap for many women who don’t have access to an informal mentoring network* says Therese Torris, editor and co-author of the book.

All About Mentoring
What makes the difference between a career that thrives and one that stalls? For many in the business world, it’s a mentor. Despite what some may say, mentors are not just for students or neophytes. Mentors share their knowledge of business in general, and a company in particular, with lucky mentees. Ever heard of the “old boy’s network”? That’s mentoring.
