Networking makes the world go around

There are as many definitions of networking as there are networkers and even more opinions about the value of networking.

Some of us start running for the door when the word comes up, expecting aggressive selling and overwhelming promotions of less than average products by people with more than average ‘flux de bouche’. After all, if you or your product is that good, you don’t need to sell them because people will actually come up and hire you or buy your product just like that. So why network? More

THINK TANK GROUP

Recognition and reward for efforts key to women’s career satisfaction

The Think Tank Group “What is it like for working women in your country” has finalized its survey. It concludes that women, across regions and demographics, desire first and foremost work environments which are, ideally, meritocratic and reward them fairly vis-à-vis their male colleagues for their efforts. However, most women believe this type of environment does not reflect reality due to the large pay-gap that continues to exist between men and women. Achieving parity in pay is a much more important driver of career satisfaction for women than ensuring strong social benefits, such as government run programs, child care, etc… more

Introducing EuropeanPWN’s BusinessXchange

Women mean business. We are delighted to announce the launch of a new functionality on our fantastic online platform : BusinessXchange.

BusinessXchange is designed to help members network for business. Whether you are the founder of a start-up in search of investors, an international tax advisor in Madrid, a manager of an Italian shoe manufacturer looking for distributors in the UK, or a coach who wants to advertise her next workshop in Paris, BusinessXchange will allow you to introduce your business in a short and crisp way, and to specify the type of contacts you are looking for: customers, suppliers, partners, distributors or investors.

This searchable directory is a resource for all members — those offering their services and those looking for providers. Just imagine that all 3,500 EuropeanPWN members’ businesses are listed – it will be our first resource when we urgently need to find a PR agency in a foreign city!

As a directory directly linked to the members who represent the business listed, BusinessXchange is unique in a community network. It was designed according to your specifications and to meet your needs for efficient and non-intrusive business promotion and business exchange.

For great business deals, we invite you to check BusinessXchange. You will find it on the menu of the members-only platform, together with greater detail on how it works. Your comments and suggestions are very welcome. Please send these to websteering@europeanpwn.net

How do women network?

Networking is key to a successful and balanced career. Some of us do it instinctively, others are trying to master it and the rest are still questioning. Measuring is key for understanding the state of the art, this is why we are running this survey ’How do women network?’: anyone can answer. Feel free to pass it to your own contact list! Click here for the survey (approx. 10 minutes)

International mobility

This survey will help depict values and issues of mobility for women; such knowledge being useful for HR departments, as well as for women themselves. It targets any woman having lived an expatriation, whether as the assignee or as the accompanying spouse. To complete the survey click here (approx. 4 minutes)

In the Press: EuropeanPWN

Following the publication of our 8th book in the Women@Work series Women on Boards – Moving Mountains numerous articles have been published across Europe. The article ‘Business misses the female touch’ in The Independent on 7 December 2007 (UK) mentions that the book has identified the key issues which hold women back from striving for a board position such as lack of visibility and lack of experience. It also highlights the fact that companies need to become more creative and take more risks in this area. Here is a summary of the wide variety of messages the press picked up on so far More

EuropeanPWN publishes its 8th book in the Women@Work series, ‘Women on Boards – Moving Mountains’

EuropeanPWN provides compelling evidence for the need to promote more women board members to European companies. The EuropeanPWN BoardWomen monitor conducted by Egon Zehnder in 2006 showed that only 8.5% of corporate boardroom seats in the top 300 European companies are held by women. In “Women on Boards – Moving Mountains”, EuropeanPWN in association with Mercer, analysed the profiles of the 100 top women compared to their male counterparts and provides advice for both companies and women on board diversity.
